Education from a Different Angle

Being new to Green Bay East High School this year I was truly blown away by the experiences and opportunities our students have through our East High School Fine Arts Institute! As a former math teacher and new administrator to the building, I was determined to find a unique way to integrate myself into all aspects of this amazing program. What better way to do that then to learn a new instrument and perform with our students?! I took up early morning piano lessons with our fine arts coordinator, the talented Mrs. Lucinda Roberts as my teacher, and worked the entire year to learn a beautiful piece on the piano to accompany our wonderful choir students in their final concert of the year on May 21st, 2025.

It was a truly special moment for me! Hard to describe in words how much that experience meant. I am so thankful to Lindsay Tippins, choir director, and our students for allowing me this opportunity. They surprised me on stage at the end with flowers as it was my first live performance ever and the students were so excited to support me, supporting them! I shed some tears of happiness. This is why we do the job!

I could not keep track of how many times I messed up in choir rehearsals on the piano, but as a school administrator there is no better way to build relationships or become a part of something greater than yourself, than to be in the trenches with students, being venerable, being out of your comfort zone, and learning something new! Education is so powerful!

Check out my latest publication! A lot of exciting things happening at Stillwater Public Schools thanks to major collaboration between school site administration and the facilities management leadership team! Honored to be a part of several of these projects and recently sat down with the facilities team to redefine what collaboration can look like in these situations! Our work was published by APPA - Leadership in Educational Facilities in their Educational Facilities Manger Journal and shared across the world! Huge thank you to Rob Lamecker, CEFP & Larin Davis for their co-authorship and collaboration!

This post is a bit late, but I am super excited to share that I graduated from the Leadership Class of 32 from the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce in January. It was an incredible experience where we learned about economic development, energy & utility services, emergency services, agriculture, education, airport, local government, internship with community non-profit, and the completion of class project in which we were able to raise $17,500 for our local VFW Post! Thank you so much for this eye opening opportunity to see behind the scenes of how great City of Stillwater, Oklahoma is to live, work, and raise your family!!!

I am filled with so many emotions and are overly excited to share that after six years of persistance through many life changes including: loving 12 foster children as our own, collecting research through a pandemic, surviving my first administrative job, welcoming our beautiful daughter into the world, and celebrating the birth of our second, just to name a few......last week on Thursday, April 20th, I successfully defended my dissertation! It is officially Dr. Mach!!!

A good friend once told me that a dissertation does not occur in a day nor does it occur alone, and those words could not be more true. This would not have been possible without the help and support of sooooo many people along the way who helped me make this possible. I am forever in their debts! Especially my beloved wife Mary Mach who was by my side every step of the way, and to my advisor, Jane Vogler, Ph.D. who never missed an opportunity to tell me to "keep going"! THANK YOU!!!

Looking forward to life's next adventure! (Though, I promised my wife I would wait at least one week before starting something new, lol)

Junee puppy is going to be a big sister!!! I know this is a personal post, but I would not be who or where I am today without my family. They are my rocks, my support system, my everything!

My beautiful wife Mary Mach and I have loved being foster parents in the Stillwater community these past three years, but we are beyond excited to share that WE ARE HAVING A BABY GIRL due in October!!! It’s been a whirlwind of emotions the last few months from happiness, wonder, excitement and joy. We can’t wait to meet our little princess! She is already loved by so many, and we are truly blessed to have so many people in our corner supporting us! Thank you to everyone who has offered love, support, advice, and friendship over the last few years and during this time as we have worked through this process! I have wanted nothing more in life than to be a dad, this is a true blessing that we will not take for granted! Please keep the prayers coming for our little princess!

With Love, - Kane & Mary Mach

My wife and I are excited to share that after moving across town, our newly improved little free library is back open and ready for visitors! Our library is located directly across the street from Skyline Elementary School.

We would like to thank the Oklahoma City Thunder, who recently visited and restocked our library full of brand new books as a part of the relaunch of their new Thunder Book Bus!!! Oklahoma City Thunder

Our library has children's books, young adult books, and full novels in multiple languages and written by diverse authors. We are also adding a few pantry food items and toiletries for anyone who might be in need! Come stop by our Little Free Library. Take a book, leave a book. We love reading and are proud to support literacy in our wonderful community!

Meet Junee! She is a black lab and border collie mix, one of the sweetest and most energetic dogs you could ever meet. My wife and I spent countless hours training her to become a nationally certified school therapy dog. She passed with flying colors and I am happy to say that she spent several days each week hanging out in my elementary classroom this past school year! Who wouldn't want to bring their dog to work every day, but more importantly, WOW what a difference it made for my students, fellow teachers, and parents in the building.

Research strongly indicates that school therapy dogs can help reduce anxiety and stress in students, improve school attendance issues, and significantly increase academic achievement. With the growing epidemic of mental health and resiliency concerns in today students, educators need to think outside of the box to create the best environment for our students to learn in!

I am both honored and humbly excited to be selected as the 2017-2018 Will Rogers Elementary Site Teacher of the Year and one of three selected finalists for District Teacher of the Year at Stillwater Public Schools! This proud professional accomplishment would not be possible without the support of my amazing faculty colleagues and my beloved students. Thank you!

They say you need two things to make it successfully through a PhD program. Persistence and a partner to support you! It would not be possible for me to be an effective full-time elementary school teacher, high school coach, university adjunct instructor, and full time PhD student without the help, love, and support of Mary Cahill. I am honored and excited to share that we will be spending the rest of our lives together!

    She said yes!!!
